Since Thanksgiving is in three weeks we thought we would give you a few ideas on what you should bring your holiday hostess (yes, you should bring a gift!) Your hostess has been working hard on preparing for the meal and definitely deserves a token of appreciation. The best gifts to give are either a dessert, a gift for the kids, or a small gift for the host herself.
Some great gift ideas are to bring a dessert that is one of your family secret recipes, for ex. Grandma Essie’s Famous Pumpkin Pie or to bring cookies that you and your kids made together for this meal. BUT if you do not have the time or are not known for your culinary skills you can bring or send ahead of time cookies, pies, and other fun chocolate desserts. Some of our favorite places to send desserts from are Harvard Sweet Boutique in MA and Zelda’s Sweet Shoppe in IL both of these bakeries are delicious and offer holiday discounts (enter SPOILME & receive 20% off).
Other great gift ideas to bring are items for the children. Chances are the host has probably been neglecting her children all day while she has been preparing and will appreciate the fact that her child will now be spoiled a little. Some ideas for the child could be a board book about Thanksgiving such as Tony Johnston’s Ten Fat Turkeys, a Thanksgiving Puzzle by Melissa & Doug, or even a plush Turkey stuffed animal .
And if you want to bring something for the hostess that is not food for the meal, I suggest bringing her something festive that she can use in her home such as the Gianna Rose Pumpkin & Squash soap set, a Laura Slatkin pumpkin scented candle or even a personalized pumpkin apron from William Sonoma. The price of the gift does not matter, it is simply the thought that does count. Thanksgiving is about saying “Thanks” and a little token of appreciation says exactly that.
