When should I register and what should I register for?

ASAP! The more time you waste the more gifts you will get that are not exactly what you want. The beauty of registering is that you are able to go shopping without forking over a dime. Think of it as a socially acceptable way to avoid getting 40 food processors and being plagued by other people’s poor taste. If you are the procrastinating type, then AT LEAST have your registry completed before your wedding invitations are mailed.

In terms of items on the registry, you should have approximately 1.5 times the number of gifts to invites. For example, if you are inviting 200 people to your wedding, you should register for approximately 300 gifts (200 invites x 1.5 = 300). There is NOTHING more frustrating than wanting to buy a gift from the registry when it is more barren than a desert in Africa. This bakes in enough gifts for your engagement party, showers and wedding. Make sure you also register for items at varying price points so everyone is able to afford to buy you something you are DYING to have.
